International Conference

Background and Justification

Mongolia, a young north-east Asian democracy, has become a hotspot for mining in the region, and the Mongolian mining industry has been playing an increasingly important role in the economy. However, along with the rapid development of the mining sector there have come numerous challenges for Mongolia. Foremost among these is institutional quality and governance in Mongolia, both of which have been deteriorating year by year according to a number of indicators developed by international organizations (e.g. Corruption Perception Index by Transparency International, Global Governance Indicators by the World Bank etc.). Therefore, we are organizing this year an international academic conference with the main theme "Building Good Institutions for Averting the Resource Curse".
